LCO v.s LOC

Two identified methods for moisture retention. Which is best?

As I have reiterated many many times on this blog, moisture is FUNDAMENTAL. Having properly moisturized hair... you know what check out the post here.

LCO v.s LOC...What are they?

The LCO method stands for Liquid, Cream, Oil whereas LOC is an abbreviation for Liquid, Oil, and Cream. Both methods refer to the sequence in which you choose to apply your hair products in to promote moisture retention and ultimately lead to better and healthier hair growth.

As a low porosity 4B 4C girl, I have always used the LCO method primarily because I've felt that it makes no sense to seal the cuticle prior to adding in the cream styler (although if this method works for you, keep doing it!). Most cream stylers add some form of moisture, which I want to penetrate my hair shaft. If my cuticles are sealed then the cream will just sit on top of my hair.

The LCO method is a great place to start if you are newly natural.

If you are open to exploring, I would recommend comparing both methods on your hair (e.g. one half of your hair LCO and the other LOC) to figure out which method provides moisture for the longest amount of time. If you find that both methods leave your hair feeling too heavy or overly greasy, try using a lighter oil (like argan oil) or removing oil altogether.
